The 20th century had five significant geo-strategic moments:
1) The First World War from 1914-18;
2) The Second World War from 1939-1945;
3) The demise of colonialism and the rise of newly liberated nations across Asia, Africa, Latin & South America;
4) The Cold War between 1945-1991 and
5) The end of the Cold War in 1991.

Each of these events was epochs in themselves with a before and an after. Often one merged into the other, or the latter was the consequence of the former. Each of these mega-events profoundly influenced the course of history and the destiny of people without consulting with them.
I bet the world will remember the COVID19 outbreak as a similar such moment.
The difference between 20th and 21st century, people can influence history. Almost more than half of the world population estimated 7.7 billion are active online users. This means that the people now have the choice to influence any decision if they wish to.
